Wankel Prototype Rotary Engine Cut-Out
Museum Piece of Automotive History
In the Early 1970's the Seller Worked for a German Man Who Planned to Become the Import/Distributor of NSU Cars into USA The Flagship Model was the RO 80, which was One of the 1st Production Cars to use the Revolutionary Wankel Rotary Engine Contrary to Popular Belief it wasn't NSU or Mazda who First used a Rotary-Engine in a Car, it was Skoda
An Unknown Number of 1,000 Mercedes Benz's were Fitted with Single-Rotor Engines in the Early 1960's
These were Used for Experimental Purposes
These Cars were Never Sold to Customers, and After the End of the Experiments they were Most Likely Scrapped
In Order to Help Explain the Engine and Sell Dealership Franchises, One of the First Single Rotor Prototype Engines Built by Felix Wankel was Made into a Cut-Away Model with a Hand Crank to Turn the Rotor with a Clear Plexiglass Front Plate so that you Could see the Function of the Engine
However, the Distribution Plan Collapsed when the RO-80 Failed to Meet New EPA Standards for Emissions
The Consignor's Boss was Left with the Model Engine, a Lot of Disappointment, and Lost Money
After it Sat Around the Dealership Owned by the Same Man who Wanted to Import NSUs, it was Finally Gifted to the Consignor After over 50 Years Ago upon Request
A Chance to Own a Unique Piece of Automotive History!
